Into the lab
During the development of Synthetic Morphologies, I’ve had the opportunity to perform a series of experiments in a Microbiology lab. In some cases, witnessing the work of scientists, and in others performing the experiments directly.
It is interesting to observe how different these spaces are when observed through the lens of a designer. Specially, when most of the protocols and spaces are designed and streamlined to follow a very specific epistemology of scientific enquiry, which conflicts at times with the processes of documentation and creative exploration more common to design work.
The following pictures provide a snapshot of the ongoing adventure of being a designer in a lab.
