About me

Carolina Ramirez- Figueroa

I’m a Teaching Fellow at the School of Architecture, Newcastle University (UK), and currently completing my creative practice PhD. I have a degree in Architecture — via a one-year stint in product design — from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico, as well as an MSc in Digital Architecture from Newcastle University.

My main research is in the intersection of computation — biological, digital and material — with architecture. My work often follows a material practice approach to interrogate the possibilities that lie in understanding novel forms of computation, principally biological, as a technology for design.

Among a myriad other things, I’m also interested in photography and visualisation. I worked for 3 years at Renderloft, an architectural visualisation studio that focus on 3d modelling and photorealistic representation.
